Inclusion of updates on
Medical Biotechnology in Medical Curriculum

Review of the existing course curriculum was
considered by the group. It was agreed that most of the basic concepts related
to biotechnology is covered by the syllabus under microbiology, pathology,
biochemistry, forensic medicine…. It is felt that the chapters relevant to
Biotechnology (BT) should be given more importance. There is no need to
overload the syllabus.

prepared on progress and prospects of BT, and shared with the students to
stimulate interest and to open vision.

Demonstration of different technology (e.g.,
recombinant technology, PCR, Elisa, cell culture, DNA technology in Forensic
Medicine) may be arranged for students in consultation with institutes that
have the facility.

Web based resource may be used to simulate the
various procedures in BT. Videos may also be requested from various
institutes to stimulate students

Obsolete items need to be just mentioned and not
stressed upon to make out space for new items

Students may be asked to write term paper/ project
paper which can stimulate their thought process

Budget allocation to train and motivate teachers on
BT

Transparency in selecting teachers for training

Trained teachers can arrange orientation workshop
(sharing of knowledge) with other teachers (from government and private
medical colleges)

setting up new Medical Colleges (Govt. and private) and ensure its

Equip laboratories of medical colleges with
instruments (with maintenance) through special fund allocation
