On review of the existing course curriculum the group agreed that MBT may be highlighted in the various under graduate and post graduate curriculums.
Plans developed:
It was agreed that most of the basic concepts related to biotechnology is covered by the syllabus under microbiology, pathology, biochemistry, forensic medicine…. It is felt that the chapters relevant to Biotechnology (BT) should be given more importance. Institutional (specially laboratory) support is essential component for practical demonstration of biotechnological techniques.

·         Chapter on ‘Fundamentals of Molecular biology and Genetics’ may be renamed as ‘Fundamentals of Molecular biology Genetics and Biotechnology’
·         Practical demonstration to be ensured.



Pharmacology and therapeutics
·         One of the chapter to be renamed as ‘How drugs develop and role of BT’
·         ‘Current clinical status of BT drugs and their future’ may be added


Microbiology
·         Chapter on ‘Microbial genetics and role of BT in diagnosis of diseases’ to be included
·         ‘Practical demonstration’ to be ensured.



Pathology
·         Chapter on ‘Genetic disorder and role of BT in diagnosis of disease’ and ‘Role of BT in diagnosis of cancer’ be added



Community medicine
·         ‘Risks and hazards of BT’ may be added


Forensic medicine
·         Chapter on ‘Role of BT in medico legal issues’ may  be added


 Surgery, Medicine, Gynae, Pediatrics and Allied subjects
Experts may be called in for suggestions

Budget allocation to train and motivate teachers on BT


Transparency in selecting teachers for training


Trained teachers can arrange orientation workshop (sharing of knowledge) with other teachers (from government and private medical colleges)


BMDC may update its standards and requirements for setting up new Medical Colleges (Govt. and private) and ensure its implementation


Equip laboratories of medical colleges with instruments (with maintenance) through special fund allocation


Long term

Next sector program may take the efforts of upgrading medical colleges further
